PROBLEM

How do we keep the fitness app usage rate up by creating new features?

During the pandemic, the fitness app usage rate has gone up tremendously. But in 2022, there are some well-known fitness app company has stopped selling their products. I have noticed this trend, and want to find out how can we avoid this problem.

COMPETITIVE ANALYSIS

Let’s see what the existing apps are on the market.

USER INTERVIEWS

I interviewed a couple of people to get more insights and identify the pain points for them to stop using the fitness app after a couple of months.

  • 5 in-person interviews were conducted (All of them has used fitness app in the past)

  • 18-34 years

  • 30 mins each

KEY questions asked

  • How do you most commonly track their health and fitness goals?

  • How do you most widely share fitness updates with friends and family?

  • What types of features do you want to add to a fitness app?

THE SOLUTION

INSIGHTS

Let’s see what we found out from the interview.

SKETCHES + PROTOTYPING

Sketching for possible solutions + visualizations

Then utilizing the different opportunities, I started to look at different UI to design the best visualization for this project.

TESTING & IMPROVEMENTS

There are always improvements to be made.

On the last day of the sprint, and asked my mentor for feedback on the functionality and clarity of my prototype. Overall, the feedback was very positive! Only then a few UI changes came about:

  • The original workout page is missing a “share” button. I have added a pop-up share button to let the users leave a message while sharing with their friends and families.

  • On the home page, the descriptions for the graphs are not clear. I highlighted the name of the chart to help the user to have a better understanding of their progress.
